Second Senlin War

The Second Senlin War was an armed conflict between the Earth Kingdom, under Earth Queen Mai Gui and her Council of Five, and the United Republic under the Jeong Jeong administration. Tensions arose in the wake of the Seilkuq Quasi-War, during which the United Republic stayed neutral due to having military alliances with both the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe. The Council of Five sought compensation for this perceived contract breach and felt slighted by the Jeong administration during their negotiations, resulting in Earth Queen Mai's declaration of war against the United Republic. What started as a series of diplomatic blunders became a patriotic cause for the Earth Kingdom to reclaim lost territory, for which President Jeong Jeong accused them of power-hungry expansionism. The war culminated in the 2nd Battle of Senlin, in which the United Forces led by General Vasia Silva were decisively defeated by the Earth Kingdom and their allies. After this defeat, the Jeong administration soon offered a conditional surrender, ending the war and giving way to the Edict of Republic City, which ceded almost all of the United Republic to the Earth Kingdom, save for Republic City which was allowed to continue existing as a Protectorate, essentially an Earth Kingdom puppet state, until it was finally annexed outright in the 172 Rhéng River Edict.
