Republic City is a major urban centre located in the Hu Xin province of the Earth Kingdom. It is best known as the former capital of the now-defunct United Republic of Nations and has long served as a political, cultural, and economic hub for people of all nations.

The city was originally established as a centre for cooperation between benders and non-benders from across the Four Nations. Over time, it developed a distinct identity shaped by diversity, trade, and governance separate from any single nation. This made it a natural choice as the राजधानी of the United Republic during its various iterations.

History

Throughout its history, Republic City has changed hands multiple times as a result of treaties, wars, and political agreements. In 134 AG, it was transferred to the Sun Warriors under the First Treaty of Republic City and renamed Repyras. In 135 AG, it returned to United Republic control following the Second Treaty of Republic City in exchange for territory in Kaiyo Province.

During the Chunying War, the city became the final stronghold of the Second United Republic before its collapse in 136 AG, after which it was annexed by the Earth Kingdom under the Treaty of Bei Da Feng. It later became central to the formation of the Third United Republic in 152 AG, once again serving as its capital.

In 168 AG, following the defeat of the Third United Republic, Republic City was not fully annexed into the Earth Kingdom. Instead, it was reorganised as the Protectorate of Republic City under the Edict of Republic City, granting it limited autonomy while remaining under Earth Kingdom influence.

Modern Era

Today, Republic City remains one of the most important cities in the region, recognised for its diverse population, strategic importance, and lasting legacy as the heart of the United Republic.
