Aguila Sosa was appointed the 9th Air Elder of the Southern Air Temple in 150 AG, serving until his death in 151 AG. His tenure took place during rising tensions between the Fire Nation ruling family, the Dainagons, and the Air Elders. He became known for pushing the militarisation of the Air Nomads in response to the Lummo Accords, which enforced Air Nation pacifism and gave the Fire Nation, Sun Warriors, and Earth Kingdom broad access to Air Nation resources for a period of 20 years.
Aguila argued that the Air Nation needed the ability to defend itself. He attempted to renegotiate the Lummo Accords. Earth King Kiros and Sun Chief N’Jadaka were initially open to discussions. However, Fire Lord Izel opposed any changes, and the accords remained in force. After the failed negotiations, Aguila continued to expand Air Nation defensive forces and sought alliances with Water Chief Karrad Silana and the Council of Akhlut, but both sides rejected involvement due to the risk of wider conflict.
Assassination
In Caldera City, allies of the Fire Nation gathered for a diplomatic meeting. Azutoru Dainagon invited Aguila to the Fire Nation Palace under the pretext of negotiation. During the meeting, Aguila was assassinated with the involvement of Fire Lord Izel, Earth King Kiros, Water Chieftess Sefina, and Crown Princess Yimiso. Following his death, the allied coalition carried out covert operations against other Air Nation leaders, including Eastern Elder Nade Dorsyl. The Air Nation leadership collapsed under sustained pressure.
Keldeo Sosa, sister of Aguila, later surrendered to the Fire Nation. She signed the Reparation Accords, which temporarily placed the Air Nation under Fire Nation control.
