The turtle yak is a hardy yet gentle creature native to the highlands and valleys of the Earth Kingdom. Commonly found in hill clans, old monasteries, and merchant caravans, it is revered by many for its steadfast nature and almost meditative stillness. Allegedly, it’s impossible to rush a turtle yak, unless snacks are involved.

Philosophers believe the turtle yak was the first creature to understand time, and that it walks slowly because it doesn’t fear being late. Noble families have been known to gift turtle yak calves to their children to teach them patience and stewardship. Poachers may sell the turtle yak’s sturdy shell for use as armor or containers, and artists use their thick hairs to make brush tips for painting or calligraphy. They’re often cited as symbols of stoicism, earthly wisdom, long journeys, and unexpected strength.

Turtle yaks sometimes form bonds with humans and make for affectionate and unshakable companions. They are large enough to seat one person and strong enough to carry additional items.
