Naga Tona is the 32nd Southern Water Tribe Water Chief of the Water Tribe, succeeding Rataq Ilargi in 177 AG. He currently works closely with Aurali Luminara, who succeeded Tiger Kai'Morah as Northern Chieftess in 178 AG.
Personal Life
Naga is known for his blunt personality, dry humour, and guarded nature. Although often appearing detached or sarcastic, he is recognised by those close to him as quietly empathetic and deeply observant. He rarely expresses care openly, instead showing it through small actions and personal loyalty. Despite his rougher demeanour, he carries a relaxed confidence and is regarded as unexpectedly knowledgeable due to his extensive travels and education.
Naga was abandoned at a young age after his father disappeared and his mother remained unknown to him. He spent much of his childhood surviving alone between villages before meeting Ko Tona while attempting to steal dried fish near a shoreline settlement. Tona took him in and became a father figure to him, introducing him to travel, surfing, and life beyond survival.
Under Tona’s guidance, Naga travelled extensively across the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, visiting locations ranging from the streets of Ba Sing Se to the cliffs of Ember Island. During these journeys, Tona educated him in reading, writing, and history, resulting in Naga becoming unusually well-read and knowledgeable despite his informal upbringing.
