The First United Republic, also known as the first United Republic of Nations, was a city for benders and non-benders that existed from 110 AG to 121 AG. It was formed as a unified state under Presidents Porco and later Zorrun, before being destroyed during the World War and absorbed into the United Fire Nation.
The early period of the First United Republic was marked by efforts to maintain stability among the Four Nations following its founding. Tensions escalated significantly under President Zorrun, whose administration became increasingly involved in military action and regional disputes. A major turning point occurred when President Zorrun led an attack on the Water Tribe palace in Agna Qel’a, which resulted in injuries to members of the Water Tribe royal family. This act severely damaged diplomatic relations. In response, a world leader summit was held at the Water Tribe palace in an attempt to resolve tensions between the United Republic and the Water Tribe, but the talks failed to produce an agreement.
Further instability followed when Omashu, led by Mayor Harry, left the United Republic and rejoined the Earth Kingdom with the approval of Earth Monarch Amomi. The United Republic leadership subsequently initiated treason proceedings against Harry. Conflict escalated further when a Water Tribe battalion attempted to flood Republic City. President Zorrun responded by declaring war on the Water Tribe. The Water Tribe was joined by the Sun Warriors, the Swamp tribes, and the Earth Kingdom, while the United Republic aligned with Kaiyo and the Fire Nation.
During the war, the First United Republic suffered a catastrophic collapse. An explosion at a factory inspection site in Republic City killed President Zorrun along with the entire United Republic leadership and military command structure. Following this event, world leaders convened to determine the future of the state.
The First United Republic was ultimately dissolved in 121 AG and absorbed into the United Fire Nation following its defeat in the wider World War. Its collapse marked the end of the first unified republic structure in the region and led to a major realignment of global power.
