During the ensuing battle taking place during a Full Moon, the global coalition of fighters successfully draw out the Amaryllis clan and their bloodbending ally Shu Mammon. With the help of a group of dissenters in the Water Tribe military, including an Alekkto Thales and Rataq Ilargi, they are able to detain Shu and declare victory. After regrouping, Earth King Xaoten demands the surrender of Makki Amaryllis, “the Silent Chieftess,” whom many viewed as a puppet of Selene.
- Ren Rei maturely reflects on his use of violence in the apprehension of Shu Mammon and steps down as Northern Elder in favor of Bó Maąrak, encouraging people of the world and especially Air Nomads to foster love and cooperation in his absence.
- Alekkto Thales addresses Chieftess Makki, demanding that she steps down from her position. He reveals that Selene Amaryllis is indeed a day bloodbender as Saya Zallira claimed, and that she and her sister Sedna indeed harbored and protected Shu Mammon. Alekkto states that these crimes implicate the entire Amaryllis family by association, and Makki the figurehead must abdicate in favor of a more just and suitable government in the Water Tribe in order to rectify the crimes that occurred under her purview. In response, Makki agrees to resign, accepting the “silent chieftess” moniker, in a final statement to the world.
- Alekkto Thales and Rataq Ilargi become dual Chiefs of the Water Tribe and promise to repair the damage done to the Water Tribe, end the tribe’s isolation, and bring the Amaryllis family to justice. General Vasia Silva and his United Forces fought valiantly but were overwhelmed by the much larger Earth Kingdom host. Between the expert metalbending of Xaoten Izaki and the terrifying abilities of the bloodwitch and known criminal Saya Zallira, who had been recruited by Grand Secretariat Songwen Beifong, the United Forces were no match and were forced to retreat to Kang province across the Jiang river.
- After their crushing defeat at the Siege of Senlin, the Jeong administration recognizes they cannot win the war, and private negotiations are held between them and the Earth Kingdom’s Council of Five, during which an agreement is made.
- President Jeong Jeong of the United Republic delivers a formal and public surrender, as long as captives and civilians are unharmed and citizens are not kicked out of their own homes. Prior to his surrender, Jeong attempts to dispel claims that he led a corrupt and negligent government as well as convince the rest of the world that the Earth Kingdom and others are liars, traitors, and corrupt individuals who control Earth Queen Mai from the shadows.
- Grand Secretariat Songwen Beifong accepts Jeong’s surrender, dismissing his claims as delirious drivel, and issues the Edict of Republic City, dissolving the 3rd United Republic, annexing all lands except for Republic City proper into the Earth Kingdom, and converting the city itself into the Protectorate of Republic City, a client state of the Earth Kingdom. Rather than annexing the city outright, Lady Songwen claims Republic City has developed a distinct culture and republican spirit which ought to be recognized through its autonomy, albeit limitedly.
- Mai Gui abdicates from the throne of the Earth Kingdom, reflecting on her accession that she chose not out of desire but out of necessity, and expressing feelings of inadequacy as monarch and lack of desire to continue ruling. She names her adoptive father and former Earth King Xaoten Izaki her successor, who accepts the mantle of Earth King in the wake of her abdication.
- Loian Hemero, once a pretender to the throne of the Earth Kingdom and more recently an official in the Jeong administration responsible for driving a rift between the United Republic and Earth Kingdom leadership, is publicly executed by beheading at the Beifong Estate in Gaoling. At the festival, Grand Sage Heimlock Ling delivers a speech, attendees plant trees together, and eventually Hei Bai even makes an apparition, shocking guests with a rare sighting of the spirit.
- Heimlock Ling formally renounces his position as Grand Sage as he retreats from public life in search of spiritual enlightenment.
- Earth King Xaoten solemnly closes the Earth Kingdom’s borders in response to grim and unsettling information he learned, eventually revealed to be the knowledge of Shu Mammon, an insidious bloodbending maniac, who had been capturing and murdering people in a secluded cave in the southern tundra. Fire Lord Hanako follows suit, closing borders until the situation is resolved.
- A mysterious figure by the name of “S”, who is later determined to be Saya Zallira, speaks from the radio of Northern Elder Ren Rei and publicly reveals incriminating information about many notable figures around the world in their dealings with the bloodbender Shu Mammon. Saya exposes Selene Amaryllis, former Water Chieftess, for being a fellow bloodbender and schemer; Water Chieftess Makki for befriending Mammon; Fire Lord Hanako who offered her own citizen to Mammon in exchange for sanctuary; Sun Chieftess Max’li Raa who offered Mammon and Saya sanctuary on the island of Rakanet so long as Mammon tortured her for some kind of experiment; and the Chu tau, leaders of the Swamp, accused of kidnapping a child of 13 and keeping her in the Swamp against her will.
167 — September-November 2024
- Hatsu Duran steps down from her position as Elder.
- The Mālvās Max’li Raa laments Earth King Xaoten’s abdication, finding his reign admirable, and congratulates the Gui family on their rise to royalty, but suspends the Land & Sun treaty that was once in place between the Sun Warriors and Earth Kingdom, which included clauses of safe passage, non-aggression, and criminal extradition, as the Mālvās now finds these provisions unnecessary.
- Fire Lord Isamu Hinotatsu abdicates in favor of his Crown Princess Hanako, explaining that he had lost his passion for the role. Hanako Hinotatsu is crowned Fire Lord.
- Earth Queen Lin Gui travels to the Foggy Swamp to meet with Chu Tau Giac and reinstate the Badger Frog Alliance, in which the Earth Kingdompromises to protect the Swamp’s sovereignty and participate in mutual spiritual exchanges. Notably absent from the list of provisions was the extradition of criminals such as Que Zo Due to the Earth Kingdom to await trial for crimes they committed in Earth Kingdom lands, which Lin’s predecessor Earth King Xaoten demanded from the Swamp. This unmet expectation drove a subtle wedge between Queen Lin and members of her nobility, despite bringing an end to the quasi-war with the Foggy Swamp.
- Grand Sage Ilah Hu announces the formation of a global Spiritual Council, full of spiritual leaders from each nation, intended to foster collaboration between the nations in the name of spiritual harmony. She is joined by the Evaltisu Karuzai of the Sun Warriors, Eastern Elder Jay Mully, Chu tau Giác of the Foggy Swamp Tribe, President Jeong of the United Republic, and Makki Amaryllis of the Water Tribe.
- After Grand Sage Mai Gui, Princess of the Earth Kingdom, and the immortal Heimlock Ling are discovered trespassing in La Bayān, the Mālvās Max’li denounces Earth Queen Lin for failing to keep her subjects in check. In response, Mai attempts to shift the narrative by pointing out the Sun Warriors’ history of aggression and that of Max’li’s own Raa heritage. Max’li in turn points out moments of Earth Kingdom aggression in Sun Warrior history and accuses her former love interest Mai of ignorance.
- President Jeong of the United Republic hosts another probending match in Furushiki.
- Earth Queen Lin Gui is officially crowned in Ba Sing Se to great fanfare.
- Commander Yohai Zhōngtài announces the death of Earth Queen Lin by murder, claiming that an assailant broke into the Royal Palace and assassinated the queen, after which he buried her himself. Yohai accepts the mantle of Earth King as Lin’s chosen successor, but this is controversial among the Earth Kingdom’s nobility, who find the situation very suspicious and wonder if Yohai himself killed Queen Lin. A covert meeting between the highest-ranking members of the Earth Kingdom’s government takes place at the Beifong Estate in which the Houses Beifong, Izaki, Gui, and Ling decide to investigate the matter and support one another if one of them wishes to vie for the throne. Earth King Yohai later reads Lin Gui’s last will and testament, which named Yohai as her successor and Lady Songwen Beifong as the guardian of her daughter Mai.
- The Council of Elders announce and congratulate their Emissary Leonis Magnus on the completion of a historic alliance and trade agreement with President Jeong of the United Republic.
- The Air Nation and Fire Nation invite the world’s people to Twin Sun Day, a festival on the island of Nuuna to commemorate the end of the Hundred Year War, replete with speeches from spiritual figures, games, fireworks, and more. The festival takes place during the passing of a comet, greatly enhancing firebending powers for the duration of the festival, though smaller and less intense than Sozin’s comet.
- In Ba Sing Se, Earth King Yohai goes missing, possibly fleeing from the backlash he received as a result of his dubious succession of Lin Gui. In his absence, the Domestic Minister Loian Hemero, a firebender, proclaims himself Earth King. This development is scandalous and is met by a denouncement of illegitimacy from Fire Lord Hanako, who claims that this is not what Earth King Xaoten or Earth Queen Lin would have wanted. It is then revealed to Mai and the rest of the Council of Five that Loian had been coerced to sign an agreement with Water Chieftess Selene Amaryllis, one in which Loian essentially promised total loyalty to her and her family, as well as the cession of the island of Seilkuq. This revelation was the last straw for Mai, who, with the backing of the rest of the noble houses, declared herself the rightful Earth Queen and ousted Loian from Ba Sing Se and the Earth Kingdom entirely. Her accession to the throne marks the end of the succession crisis known as the Year of the Four Monarchs.
- Earth Queen Mai and President Jeong of the United Republic meet in Ba Sing Se to recommit to the Rocktech Alliance, formerly a non-aggression pact, but under its new iteration as a total military alliance, signaling Earth Queen Mai’s strategy to safeguard her nation after a period of internal strife.
- The Mālvās Max’li Raa issues a radio broadcast explaining that her aunt Alinova Dainagon has claimed the island of Hortezuca is once again sinking and ordered an evacuation thereof, but the Mālvās refutes her assessment and wishes to relay to the world that Hortezuca and its matron spirit Flora are indeed in fine standing. Some spiritual leaders from around the world sense that something is wrong anyway and attempt to visit the island themselves.
- Earth Queen Mai announces that after soured negotiations for the Amaryllis clan of Water Tribe to return the island of Seilkuq to the Earth Kingdom, which Mai sees as having been stolen during the illegitimate tenure of Loian Hemero, the Earth Kingdom has no choice but to recognize this previous incident and the lack of cooperation on the Water Tribe’s part as an act of war. Water Chieftess Selene Amaryllis responds, painting the message as an example of Earth Kingdom aggression and treachery and highlighting examples of former Domestic Minister Hemero’s and the Earth Queen’s own perceived transgressions. The two continue this exchange on radio broadcasts heard around the world, each vying for the favor of public opinion, but when Earth Queen Mai reveals the contract Selene forced Loian to sign, in which he promised to cede Seilkuq and pledge his “absolute loyalty” to her and her family, “obeying their commands without question,” it became clear to many, including Fire Lord Hanako, who offers vocal and military support to the Earth Kingdom, that Selene had zealously and underhandedly overreached.
- After the Council of Elders led by Northern Elder Ren extend an invitation to both leaders in the conflict between the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe to the Northern Air Temple, a diplomatic solution was reached, ending the war. The Calm Spirits Pact of 23 Wèiyuè 167 stipulates that all prisoners are to be returned to their homes, the island of Seilkuq will hold a research site for both nations, and the Eclipse Sage of the Water Tribe becomes a spiritual liaison between the two powers.
- In response to Fire Lord Hanako’s declaration of support for the Earth Kingdom, which Water Chieftess Selene sees as rife with baseless accusations against her character, Selene dissolves the Warm Springs Alliance with the Fire Nation and declares a period of isolation, gently closing borders to foreigners, except those permitted via the Calm Spirits Pact.
- Belatedly, Earth Queen Mai issues a formal apology for the public argument she had with the Mālvās earlier that year.
- A mysterious figure under the moniker “N” issues a public broadcast, likely through a defunct broadcasting radio. N alleges that the Mālvās was lying about Hortezuca and its spirit Flora being in fine standing, stating confidently that water levels are rising beyond control, the isle is rife with wilted flowers and plants, and the Mālvās must be hiding something, having assured the world that everything is fine. N invites listeners to see the calamity for themselves.
- In response, the Mālvās confirms that the island is indeed sinking again but rebukes the claim that she lied about its state, as she had announced the most current information at the time and had since been preoccupied with evacuation and crisis management efforts.
- Ruuk Varkhan, the Ondokhaar of the Sand Tribes, steps down from his position, elevating his nephew Nakhin Varkhan in his stead, citing needs for rest and to call upon the next generation to lead. Ondokhaar Nakhin introduces himself to the world and promises prosperity and to lead his people to paradise.
- Earth Queen Mai announces the Rocky Dunes Treaty with Ondokhaar Nakhin Varkhan of the Sand Tribes, but, finding the terms unacceptable, the Ondokhin Shuyi Varkhan rejects the treaty, immediately leading to the pact’s dissolution.
- The global Spiritual Council solemnly announces that the spirit Flora is near death, and with her the island of Hortezuca has almost completely collapsed into the sea. They urge benders of all nations to come to Hortezuca to help with rescue efforts and inform the world that the Painted Lady spirit has also been sighted trawling the island, searching through the wreckage. Leaders around the world answer the call, pledging their benders and other personnel to help with the disaster relief efforts.
- As people from around the world congregate in the ruins of Hortezuca, they spot the Painted Lady, who expresses great disappointment in humans after the loss of her friend Flora. She addresses the crowd gathered on the last remaining parts of the island:
- “You all were given a given.. Not only a gift, but a tool. Bending is meant to be used to protect, nurture, and sustain. This was the intention of the Lion Turtles as they granted it to your ancestors when they came to settle in this world. Before that, they were tools granted merely for the sake of surviving the Spirit Wilds. How far you have come.. You have no idea what it is like to be vulnerable and have your power dwindling, abandoned in your time of need and left to wither like a garden suffocated by weeds left to grow out of control. If you all do not know when it is appropriate to use the bending bestowed upon you for anything other than your own self-indulgence…”
- It was here and now that the Painted Lady began to rise up into the air. At the same time there were a few of the flowers that had remained afloat and they began to release a fluffy white gas that started to calmly flow toward the Painted Lady. Her lower body dissolved back into the misty vapor she arrived as and it began to mix with the gas coming from the plants. When they first came into contact the foggy vapor started to diffuse, spreading slowly out over the crowd. "May regrowth occur, Flora, as the world forgets what it once knew and learns anew. Let them know the feeling of a fungus emerging from a corpse learning its place in the world."
- With a thrust of her arms, the Painted Lady wailed once more and commanded the fog to spread. As it reached each new person they began to cry uncontrollably for a few seconds, feeling the despair and grief of the spirits close to Flora. Amid the crying they would collapse onto the ground falling unconscious. The fog continued to spread to every corner of the world, having the same effect on every mind and body.
- Everyone had forgotten how to bend as a result of the fog. The Painted Lady, though benevolent, saw it fit to punish the world for its failure to save Flora. Through use of the Fog of Lost Souls, Flora targeted the (muscle) memories of every person in the world condeming them to a state of Bending Infancy.
- In the wake of the fog, General Vasia Silva of the United Forces issues a radio broadcast urging everyone to honor Flora’s memory by respecting the spirits as they regain their abilities. He offers support to the rest of the world during the crisis.
- Ondokhaar Nakhin Varkhan announces that the Rocky Dunes Treaty has been renegotiated and reinstituted, a sign of cooperation with the Earth Kingdom and of peaceful coexistence.
- House Ling of the Earth Kingdom invites guests around the world to the grand opening of the Serene Jade Distillery in Bei Da Feng, an indulgent celebration with wine tastings, signature drinks, and a special raffle, to great success.
- Water Chieftess Makki announces the abdication of her predecessor and relative Selene Amaryllis, who has seemingly retreated altogether from public life. Makki promises to guide the Water Tribe towards a path of unity and lasting peace.
- Chủ Tàu Giác steps down from his position in the Swamp in favor of three promising swampies: Liên, Tiger, and Xuan.
- Earth Queen Mai, backed by her Council of Five, issues a radio broadcast in response to exhaustive attempts at negotiation with the United Republic behind the scenes to request compensation for the United Republic’s breach of their military pact, when they refused to come to the Earth Kingdom’s aid in their previous quasi-war with the Water Tribe. Mai cites diplomatic faux-pas such as President Jeong allowing the “False King” Loian Hemero to work as his librarian and even conduct sensitive meetings with Mai in his stead as evidence of the Jeong administration’s obliviousness and negligence. She reminds the world that the lands which the United Republic governs belonged to the Earth Kingdom only fifteen years prior, before they were stolen in the Fire and Blood Treaty through Sun Warrior coercion of the bloodwitch Angelina Velkhana. As a result, Mai declares war on the United Republic, stating that the Earth Kingdom will be reclaiming the ancestral Earth Kingdom lands they believe to be rightfully theirs, and expelling the feeble republican government they now recognize as illegitimate.
- President Jeong responds by stating the Earth Kingdom has become power-hungry and clarifies that the breach of treaty was due to a conflict of interest in which they could not honor all of their pacts and so remained neutral. Jeong also clarifies that Loian Hemero was never authorized to handle diplomatic meetings and that the Council in fact spoke for Jeong, not Loian. He calls the Earth Kingdom out for being expansionistic and internally unstable and urges them to look inwards before pointing fingers at others.
- Skirmishes along the border of Kang (aka Chunying) and Song break out, resulting in the Earth Kingdom capturing several United Forces soldiers and bringing them back to Ba Sing Se, where some remain in captivity and others are able to escape.

Though Yuehua was reluctant to travel all that way, he was encouraged by his confidant the Omashu Queen Bo. In the Royal Palace, rather than coming to an agreement, the Earth King explains that Yuehua laughed at his proposals and belittled the Council with insults. Returning to the Swamp, believing that an Earth Kingdom invasion is imminent, and being utterly burnt out from managing the tribe, Yuehua disappeared and is assumed to have drowned himself in the Banyan Grove. Still, Earth King Xaoten demands the Swamp surrender the individuals responsible for attacking Earth Kingdom citizens, including Que Zo Due. - Earth Queen Angelina Velkhana demands the return of the province of Zeizhou from the Bālvās A’zuron Raa of the Sun Warriors. This island she had previously signed away during the Fire and Blood Treaty of her first reign, under great duress as the Mālvās M’kari Raa and her compatriots had brutally murdered Angelina’s siblings. She expresses her wish to receive the island peacefully and diplomatically but threatens to use force if needed.
- Fire Lord Pyralis Valletta retires from her position, bequeathing the crown to her son Cyrus Valletta. She was a popular and revered Fire Lord who served the Fire Nation for decades.
- Following the disappearance of her older brother A’zuron Raa, the young Max’li Raa steps into the role of Mālvās, or Sun Chieftess. She is introduced to the world and crowned to great fanfare at the Quezon Palace in La Bayān.
- The new Mālvās Max’li publicly addresses Earth Queen Angelina Velkhana, introducing herself as distinct from the rest of her family, reminding the Earth Queen of her own breach of the Fire and Blood Treaty by reacceding to the Earth Throne and of Angelina’s father Earth King Kiros’s role in the murder of Max’li’s grandfather N’Jadaka Raa, but ultimately agreeing to consider the cession of Zeizhou, marking a careful return to the Sun Warriors’ traditional roots.
- President Yaloh Suzuki resigns from his position in favor of his right hand, now President Jeong Jeong. Suzuki reflects on his service to the United Republic and accomplishments within it and praises his chosen successor for his reforms and general worthiness.
- After long negotiations, the Earth Kingdom and Sun Warriors reach an agreement and forge the Treaty of Land and Sun, in which they will move past previous transgressions and move forward towards a brighter and more collaborative future, beginning with the cession of the province of Zeizhou back to the Earth Kingdom, a non-aggression pact, and other clauses.

- In response, Fire Lord Hyaku delivers a denunciation of Xaoten, defending Angelina’s bloodbending as a way to protect herself and accusing Xaoten of being jealous of her power. The message is met with confusion, as the Fire Lord was not even an ally of the Earth Queen and therefore seemed to be creating problems for himself, so questions about the new Fire Lord’s mental fortitude are put forth.
- After Domestic Minister Lin Gui also defends Earth Queen Angelina, citing the work she has done for the Earth Kingdom, and calling Xaoten selfish, Xaoten relays the message of Queen Bo of Omashu, who stands firmly opposed to the reign of Angelina and in support of Xaoten’s rebellion, naming Angelina a tyrant and manipulator.
- Lin Gui issues a radio broadcast announcing her capture of Earth Queen Angelina, after ambushing her in her palace chambers, proclaiming herself the new Earth Queen and pardoning Xaoten Izaki and Omashu Queen Bo. This move was controversial within the rebellion, as even though Lin Gui was working covertly with Xaoten, it had been agreed upon that Xaoten would take the throne, not Lin. Xaoten confronted Lin at her home in Ba Sing Se, and she eventually backed down, resuming her role as Domestic Minister and allowing Xaoten to assume the throne. Earth King Xaoten of the House of Izaki then finally proclaims an actual end to the rebellion and the beginning of a new era founded on transparency and justice.

He blames failed diplomacy on Earth Kingdom reluctance and asserts that war is not their goal—but warns of dire consequences if it breaks out. Asakura challenges Isamu to an Agni Kai to settle the matter, which Isamu refuses, calling the challenge hypocritical and accusing Asakura of avoiding the true issue—his father Hyaku. Asakura responds that while he sees Agni Kais as barbaric, he is willing to sacrifice himself to prevent war, urging Isamu to do the same rather than tear the nation apart.
