Bayu Matuu was the 4th and 7th Air Elder of the Northern Air Temple and Southern Air Temple, respectively. His first term lasted from 135–141 AG, and his second from 144–148 AG.
His first reign as Northern Air Elder ended after Air Nation diplomat Palkyi Semah Kirimiko publicly declared that the Air Nation was a "shell of its former self" and demanded that the elders step down in his favour so he could implement reform. Despite strong public reaction, both Island Elder Sasha and Northern Elder Bayu stepped down, leaving the Air Nation in a period of uncertainty.
In 144 AG, Grand Elder Tiny Ruzgar resigned, allowing Bayu Matuu to assume the position of Air Elder of the Southern Air Temple. He later retired again in 148 AG to focus on his personal life, appointing Island Elder Dororo to temporarily oversee the Southern Temple and its Defender branch.
