Daiyi was the Avatar from the the Fire Nation, succeeding Avatar Lianzu. She was known for her involvement in major conflicts involving the Red Lotus and multiple political crises across the world.

In 139 AG, Fire Lord Laia Yuka publicly confirmed Daiyi as the current Avatar. During this time, the White Lotus re-emerged in response to the growing threat of the Red Lotus. The Red Lotus leader Kutuq Aok was captured and killed in a Sun Empire prison by Ixqui Dainagon and Avatar Daiyi, during an event where Aok’s death reportedly allowed his son Karlock to escape. In retaliation, new Red Lotus leader Rohaang killed Water Chief Yilo.

Later that year, the Red Lotus captured Avatar Daiyi and attempted to ransom her in exchange for the Sun Empire’s dragons. The negotiation failed, and Sun Emperor Ixqui was killed during the crisis. Daiyi eventually escaped, after which she left on a solo journey and disappeared from public knowledge. The White Lotus lost contact with her, and the Red Lotus went into hiding.

In 141 AG, Daiyi reappeared during the Foggy Swamp independence movement led by Crato Spora. She opposed the declaration of independence, stating that diplomatic resolution had not been properly attempted, and the movement collapsed shortly after. Following this, Earth Queen Déshà Beifong invited Daiyi to Ba Sing Se, where she remained for a period.

During Déshà’s later political manoeuvres involving the Water Tribe, Daiyi intervened to prevent the formation of a unified Earth–Water imperial structure after the assassination of Water Chieftess Spencer Tala. She later installed Hikaru Nuniq-Dainagon as the new Water Chieftess, stabilising relations between the nations.

By 147 AG, the Air Nation announced the discovery of a new Avatar, Tharra Namthari at the Eastern Air Temple. This confirmed that Avatar Daiyi had died sometime prior, after years of being missing and presumed lost.
