Taiyomizu Hu

Taiyomizu Hu (胡太陽水; Hu Taiyōmizu), born in 151 AG, is the 23rd Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, succeeding Sylara Vyralys. She is a member of House Hu and the middle child of Ilah Hu, with an older brother, Hachi Hu, and an adopted younger brother, Tahu Hu.

Biography

Early Life

Taiyomizu was born and raised alongside her siblings at Sundome, the Hu family home situated on a small island in Hunodeshima. Their mother, Ilah, deliberately kept the family away from the dangers of the wider world, which resulted in a secluded but peaceful childhood for Taiyomizu and Hachi.

Taiyomizu was introduced to the traditions of the Fire Sages and their Bhanti ancestry by her mother's teaching and spiritual practice. Ilah taught them that fire was more than a source of power or destruction, and instead as a force connected to life, warmth, and spirit. Taiyomizu never knew their father and was raised under Ilah alone.

One of Taiyomizu's earliest memories include the arrival of their younger brother, Tahu. While playing along the island's beach with Hachi, the two discovered a mysterious box washed ashore. Inside was an abandoned infant, so they brought the child to their mother who was equally shocked by such a discovery. The infant was eventually taken into the family and became Tahu, giving Taiyomizu a new younger sibling.

Later Life

As Taiyomizu grew older, she eventually felt ready to leave the protection of Sundome and experience the wider world. She first travelled to Bhanti Island, where she spent several months deepening her understanding of her Bhanti heritage and its traditions. During her time there, she encountered the spirit Kitsunebi, beginning a journey that would greatly influence her understanding of fire, spirituality, and herself. After completing her trials, Taiyomizu followed in her mother's footsteps and joined the Order of the Fire Sages.

Her dedication to studying and preserving spiritual knowledge eventually let them rose through the ranks and attain the position of High Sage, and later Grand Sage. During this period, she continued travelling throughout the Fire Nation and maintaining her connection to Bhanti Island and its spiritual traditions.

One of the most significant relationships in Taiyomizu's later life became her bond with Alephax, a dragon she encountered during her travels. Their relationship gradually developed from curiosity and mutual interest into a close bond built around individuality, trust, and a shared understanding. Through this connection, Taiyomizu further developed her own firebending philosophy and eventually underwent the Dragon Judgement, seeking to understand the nature of her own flame rathe than simply increase her power.

Taiyomizu would go on to discover several unsual forms of fire, including Red Fire and Rainbow Fire. She is also credited as the first known bender to develop Magenta Fire. Her discovery of Magenta Fire reflects her growing belief that fire could express aspects of the individual beyond simple strength or destruction.

During her later years as Grand Sage, Taiyomizu also became a mother to her daughter, Asahira Hu. The experience brought another major change to her life while she continued to fulfill her responsibilities within the Order of the Fire Sages.

Personality

Taiyomizu is an energetic, curious, and naturally expressive individual, with a strong passion for matters she cares deeply about. She is comfortable following her own convictions even when others may question them and tends to approach unfamiliar situations with an open mind.

Her curiosity has led her to pursue both spiritual and practical knowledge throughout her life, particularly concerning the nature and philosophy of fire. Despite her energetic personality, Taiyomizu is capable of deep introspection and has become increasingly willing to acknowledge her own mistakes and vulnerabilities. Her experiences with Kitsunebi, Alephax, and her unusual firebending have shaped her belief that personal growth comes from understanding oneself rather than simply pursuing greater strength.

Reign

Taiyomizu Hu became the 23rd Fire Lord of the Fire Nation after Sylara Vyrays stepped down in her favour. After gaining approval of the Supreme Council of the Fire Nation, Taiyomizu ascended the throne, continuing the royal line of House Hu.

Her ascension marked a transition from her previous role as Grand Sage into political leadership. Despite the considerable change in responsibility, Taiyomizu continued to place importance on the Fire Nation's spiritual traditions and the preservation of its cultural identity.
