Aruni Taoluk was the sister of Water Chief Hiroko Taoluk and served as a Luminary under Water Chieftess Zia. She became involved in a major internal Water Tribe conflict following accusations tied to the death of Chieftess Zia Yuka-Feng.

Sun Chief N'Jadaka publicly called for a trial against Aruni Taoluk, accusing her of assaulting him and another Sun Warrior on Sun Warrior territory. Shortly after this, Hiroko Taoluk claimed to have witnessed Aruni murdering Water Chieftess Zia, and used this claim to declare himself the new Water Chief while also banishing Aruni from the Water Tribe.

N'Jadaka openly questioned the legitimacy of Hiroko’s accusation, believing that Aruni had been framed and that Hiroko was responsible for Zia's death. He later pronounced Aruni Taoluk dead, though it was widely believed that he had personally killed her.
