Lin Gui was an Earth Kingdom political and royal figure who was the Queen of Omashu and later became the 77th Earth Queen of the Earth Kingdom.
She was born around 141 AG to Jinsong Gui, an Earth Kingdom native, and Siku Gui, a Water Tribe citizen. Shortly after her birth, her family fled to the Southern Water Tribe where she was raised as an ice fisher. She has limited memory of her biological parents and recalls their deaths during her childhood after they drowned while fishing in icy waters.
Following their deaths, Lin Gui was raised by Dahlia Torrek, who later adopted her. Under Dahlia’s care, she was trained in espionage, basic combat, and survival skills. During this time, she also formed a close bond with her adoptive brothers Sokka and Kurro.
In early adulthood, Lin Gui worked in Omashu and was later appointed Queen of Omashu by her adoptive mother, Grand Secretariat Dahlia Torrek. She married Queen Bo, a woman who shared a similar upbringing marked by early abandonment. During this period, Lin Gui discovered she was an Earthbender whose abilities had remained dormant since birth.
Lin Gui and Bo later adopted a child named Mai Gui. Lin Gui continued her political career and was later appointed Domestic Minister in Ba Sing Se, requiring her to relocate and serve in the Earth Kingdom capital.
During a rebellion aimed at replacing Earth Queen Angelina, Lin Gui initially supported the existing monarchy but later played a key role in exposing the rebellion’s leadership. Following these events, she was appointed Grand Secretariat and later became Earth Queen after the abdication of Xaoten Izaki.
As Earth Queen, Lin Gui focused on maintaining internal stability and foreign relations. However, her reign became increasingly politically unstable, and she eventually arranged for her own disappearance with the assistance of allies, later living under an alias.
She was officially reported as having been assassinated in Ba Sing Se during a palace incident, with Commander Yohai Zhōngtài claiming responsibility for recovering and burying her body. Her death occurred within the Royal Palace of Ba Sing Se under disputed circumstances, which later triggered a major succession crisis in the Earth Kingdom.
Lin Gui’s legacy is strongly associated with political reform, internal instability during her reign, and the succession crisis that followed her death.
