If you are using loopholes to bypass these rules you will be punished as if you broke it straight out. '''Use common sense.'''

== General Roleplay Rules ==
* '''1.''' No metagaming or powergaming.
** '''Metagaming''' means your character uses information you have learned out of roleplay but that they do not/cannot know.
** '''Powergaming''' means your character's roleplay imposes on others and decides their roleplay for them.
* '''2.''' Money, items, and anything else that is tangible is prohibited from being shared between your own characters.
** Bypassing this by sharing items with one character and then having that character give it to another one of yours is also disallowed.
* '''3.''' Roleplay can only be done through in-game roleplay channels, and radios.
** Private radio channels may be utilised.
** The radio channel must be accessible to at least a single member of the RPC in order to verify the validity of any claims that may be made regarding these channels.
* '''4.''' You cannot RP in voice chats or in proximity chat.
* '''5.''' Any and all actions taken in-game on the RPG server are considered IRP or IC (In Roleplay or In Character).
* '''6.''' You cannot claim an action that happened in-game was OOC (Out of Character) unless every participant agreed.
* '''7.''' Your actual physical location is the same as your character's location IRP, they cannot be different.
* '''8.''' Logging off or using
/home
to avoid consequences in a roleplay is prohibited.
** The only exception to this is when a member of our staff team must teleport to be in a separate location than their character originally was.
* '''9.''' In all roleplay scenarios, you may not cause unnecessary disruptions that derail or detract from the scene and story unless authorised by the Roleplay Council.
* '''10.''' Conflict and in-roleplay drama are encouraged, provided they respect the ongoing narrative and do not undermine the flow of events.
* '''11.''' Handle in-character matters in character.
* '''12.''' Do not try to influence roleplay using out-of-roleplay means.
* '''13.''' Be respectful and understanding when discussing tense situations in an OOC context if you absolutely must discuss it.

== Character Rules ==
* '''1.''' An adult and a minor ('''out-of-roleplay ages''') cannot have their characters date or marry in roleplay.
** Adults are anyone 18+.
* '''2.''' No ridiculous names for roleplay characters or pets such as silly/nonsense words or full names from media or real life.
* '''3.''' No ridiculous/non-human skins.
* '''4.''' Character deletions and deaths are final.
** A character cannot be recreated with the same goals as a previous character.
** A character cannot be created for the sake of trying for new subelements.
** A character cannot be deleted to avoid RP consequences, such as trials, under threat of punishment.
*** Attempts to do so will result in penalties such as, but not limited to: Character Creation Limitations, Barring from RPC Unlocks, or Temporary Bans from the server.
* '''5.''' A roleplay character can be transferred with the consent of both parties, but this is final and the character cannot be transferred back.
* '''6.''' You cannot have more than one character ever join a specific organisation, regardless of the goals or actions of the organisation.
** This goes for any roleplay group such as the Red Lotus, the White Lotus, the Post, etc.
* '''7.''' If you start off as a non-bender you may roleplay for an element down the line as if it were a less-intensive RPC Unlock, and vice versa.
** Once this occurs, that change is final.

== Family Rules ==
* '''1.''' No using a surname that has been claimed in
#family-records
unless you are part of that family or have permission from them to do so.
** With the naming mechanics of the server this is already unlikely to happen, but blatant attempts to get around this will result in your naming permissions being restricted and a surname chosen for you.
* '''2.''' You cannot have more than 2 characters of yours (past or current) be part of the same family.
* '''3.''' Each character joining a family must be related to a member of that family.

== Leadership (NL/HRO) Rules ==
* '''1.''' Nation Leaders must stay on their NL characters unless they are a Sponsor and have a reduced character swap cooldown.
* '''2.''' One player cannot simultaneously have a character that is a Nation Leader and have other Characters as an HRO in other Nations.
* '''3.''' All Nation Leaders & High-Ranking Officials must have at least 14 hours of playtime within the past 14 days, OR have appointed a regent who meets the same requirement.
* '''4.''' You must have decorum when interacting in the community.
** Toxicity, disrespect, and other rule-breaking are not tolerated, as you are one of the faces of the server as a whole and meant to be a standard the rest of your nation follows.
* '''5.''' You must be responsive to the needs of your citizens.
* '''6.''' You must keep your nation Discord in good working order and as up-to-date as possible.
** Each Discord should have an updated list of NLs/HROs and how to reach them.
** Each public and important document must be owned by the current NL so as to avoid deletion by a previous leader or other outside party.
* '''7.''' No deleting channels or roles on your Discord out of spite for the next leader or any other malicious purpose.
** Even without malicious intent, archive - do not delete - important channels.
* '''8.''' In
#global-politics
, every message must have a greeting, a message body, and a salutation. Messages must also be meaningful and important enough for that channel.
* '''9.''' You cannot edit or delete a
#global-politics
post, except to correct small mistakes such as spelling or grammatical errors.
** This is technically a radio broadcast - you can't take back your words.
* '''10.''' All treaties must be physically signed in game to take effect.
** You can keep a copy of the treaty on Discord / Google Docs and post that in
#global-politics
as well, but it's not required.
* '''11.''' No ceding your entire nation to another nation during peacetime, even if temporarily.
** The only exception is if there are no capable successor candidates in your own nation.
* '''12.''' Nation Leaders may set laws and designate death as a punishment for certain violations.
** For violations punishable by death, the NL can choose to hold a trial or proceed with execution.
** When seeking The RPC's Override for execution, the RPC will review the laws and evidence to decide if the execution can proceed.
* '''13.''' A NL cannot use NL executions to cause the death of characters beyond the reasonable scope of their standard duties.
*: ''e.g. A nation leader making a unanimous decision when they are sure of the perpetrator's guilt in a capital offense is within the scope of their duty.''
*: ''e.g. A nation leader executing someone for being troublesome / a personal threat is outside of the scope of their duty.''
* '''14.''' Nation Leaders may perform a seizure of assets (money and properties) if sufficient cause and plausibility is presented to the Roleplay Council and authorized.
*: ''e.g. If someone has run the nation/sect of the nation into the ground and new or higher leadership sees it fit to punish the perpetrator by reallocating their remaining assets to the nation/province/crown.''
* '''15.''' Nation Leaders and High Ranking Officials may not use
#global-politics
, or any other channel or permission granted to them through their status, in Discord or in-game as any character other than their Nation Leader character.
* '''16.''' Nation Leaders may only handle the
@Roleplay Events
and
@Global Politics
permissions for the High Ranking Officials of their own nation.
** If an NL is unavailable and the matter is time-sensitive, HROs may contact a member of the leadership team for a ping.
* '''17.''' High Ranking Officials may not post in
#global-politics
without authorization from their Nation Leader.
* '''18.''' After announcing an event in the
rp-events
channel, a Nation Leader must also log that event using the Discord event feature.

== Antagonist Rules ==
* '''1.''' Only approved Antagonists may engage in organized criminal activity.
* '''2.''' Minor criminal acts are allowed by non-antagonists.
* '''3.''' If an antagonist manages to escape a HSPC, but is captured again, an antagonist is unable to be freed from their imprisonment in the future, pending a trial or execution, up to the discretion of the capturer.
** It is the burden of the antagonist to request alternate rules should they believe the above situation is unfair.
* '''4.''' Executions/Trials of antagonists must be public.
** It is the burden of the executioner to request alternate rules should they believe the above situation is unfair.
** There must be either a public trial or a public execution. Having both is unnecessary.
* '''5.''' If an antagonist is involved at all in the killing process, then antagonist kill rules are used by default (24 hours to escape).

=== Antagonist-Grade Crimes (not limited to the examples listed) ===
* '''6.''' Kidnapping, extortion, in-settlement attacking, coordinating attacks on the national and international scale, etc.

=== Petty Crimes (not limited to the examples listed) ===
* '''7.''' Petty theft, petty assault, anti-social behavior, etc.

* '''8.''' Antagonists may use the radio of a Nation Leader they have successfully captured to make posts to
#global-politics
with approval from the Roleplay Council.

== Architecture and Settlement Protection Rules ==
* '''1.''' No building structures that aren't consistent with the server theme of ''Avatar: The Last Airbender'' post-Hundred Year War.
** This is primarily East Asian style.
** If your build is hideous or too far from this theme, it will be removed.
* '''2.''' No griefing unless permitted by the [[#War Manual|War Manual]].
* '''3.''' You cannot remove someone from settlement protection if they are not already cuffed/dragged.
* '''4.''' A player made structure or location may be turned into a protected property.
** If a player wishes to do so, they must first gain approval from the nation leader that owns the land the property will be on or the RPC in the instance of a more clandestine structure.

== Combat Rules ==
* '''1.''' No combat logging, and no leaving the game just after being knocked out and/or cuffed.
** If you crash or need to go, immediately notify RPC or affected players; it will not be voided and you have to continue it as soon as possible.
* '''2.''' No spawn-killing.
** This is when you are camping someone's log-off location and killing them when they rejoin.
** The only exception to this is if they logged off specifically to avoid being attacked by you/to avoid IRP consequences and you have been given the express permission from the RPC.

== Prison Rules ==
* '''1.''' Each nation has up to three areas considered to be High Security Prison Cells (or HSPCs) capable of holding up to one captive each.
** HSPCs are almost completely inescapable as they are considered to be highly guarded locations.
* '''2.''' Prisoners must be checked on/upkept at least once an IRL week by someone with the "Warden" rank permissions.
** This interaction must occur within a roleplay context, meaning collaboration is encouraged throughout this endeavor on both ends.
** If a prisoner goes for more than an IRL week without being checked on IRP, they are encouraged to open a ticket with the RPC and make their case for having the protections on their prison reduced.
** If the RPC determines the prisoner has been neglected, then the protections securing them will be reduced and their cell will be treated as a LSPC - Low Security Prison Cell until the neglect has been rectified.
*** The prisoner must still be able to escape on their own or be rescued legitimately, but due to neglect the imprisoners will not be notified of the loosened protections.
** If a player is incapable of playing their imprisoned character within the upkeep time window, this is not held against the defenders. When the RPC has been made aware that the character is again playable, the timer will resume.
** This is reinforced by ''Character Rule 6a''. Honest attempts must be made on both ends to collaborate before neglect can be petitioned.

* '''3.''' '''The only way to free a character in a HSPC that is not being neglected:'''
** If a character becomes aware of another imprisoned in a HSPC and intends to free them, they must open a ticket with the Roleplay Council and present the following information:
*** The targeted High Security Prison Cell location
*** How their character knows that the character they are trying to free is at the location they are intending to raid
**** It needs to be verifiable that a character has this information IRP, so make an effort to document the discovery of this information.
*** Who they intend to have join them in this jailbreak attempt (if anyone)
*** What IRL date and time this jailbreak is to be attempted
** The Nation Leader responsible for that HSPC will be notified of when and where the jailbreak is to be attempted, because they have not neglected their prisoner, so they are afforded the opportunity to prepare for such an instance. They do, however, have the following restrictions:
*** The defenders have no say in the timing of this encounter
*** The defenders will not be informed of who will be participating on the attackers side
*** The defenders may only deploy characters with a legitimate roleplay reason for guarding the prison.
*** Foreign troops need to have their involvement cleared with the Roleplay Council.

* '''4.''' All prison cells/areas of confinement beyond the three HSPCs in a nation will go on functioning as they always have with no guarantee of protections outside of what the nation can supply themselves. These are considered Low Security Prison Cells (or LSPCs).
** A confined character may attempt to break out on their own if they are capable of doing so legitimately.
*** It is in your best interest to document this process in some way. It is better to have proof that you've abided by the rules in the off chance that this instance is brought to the RPC for any reason.
** Prison breaks may occur without the necessity of an RPC ticket if the characters involved have a legitimate way of knowing about the prisoner's location.
*** It is in your best interest to document this process in some way. It is better to have proof that you've abided by the rules in the off chance that this instance is brought to the RPC for any reason.
** Imprisoners may open a ticket if they suspect foul-play/bad sportsmanship is involved and have the instance investigated for validity by the RPC.
* '''5.''' If you have escaped someone's custody while in cuffs, you must wait 5 minutes after getting to safety before logging off to give fair time for a chase.
* '''6.''' You cannot use lava or water in a prison to perpetually damage the prisoner.
* '''7.''' You cannot use locked blocks to imprison people (such as encasing them in furnaces).
** Locked doors (and trapdoors) are allowed.
* '''8.''' You cannot teleport through
/home
to transport prisoners.
* '''9.''' You cannot use
/home
to teleport out of confinement if you were to break your cuffs.
* '''10.''' You cannot log out while in cuffs to avoid being grabbed/relogging to be released.
* '''11.''' Birds and mounts cannot be used from a closed room.
* '''12.''' You cannot use
#world-radio
or any other radio if you are in cuffs, shackles, or confined in a prison cell.
** The only exception to this is if your captor has explicitly allowed you to utilize a radio.

== Mobs/Mount Rules ==
* '''1.''' Only Airbenders may naturally tame a Sky Bison or have one transferred to them.
** They must have one of the following ranks in order to tame a Sky Bison on their own:
*** Scribe
*** Abbot
*** Guardian
*** Architect
*** Diplomat
*** Sandkeeper
* '''2.''' All non-airbending Air Nomads must journal sufficiently for the opportunity to befriend a Sky Bison.
* '''3.''' In order to inherit and befriend the Sky Bison of a deceased character or a character relinquishing their bond/familiarship with the Bison, there must be sufficient journals written for this transaction to make sense in lore.

== Roleplay Precedents ==
* '''1.''' New books must be authorised by the RPC to be used IRP as methods of furthering your knowledge/research towards a restricted unlock.
* '''2.''' The lava and metal sub-elements are mutually exclusive.
* '''3.''' Lightning and combustion are not mutually exclusive.
* '''4.''' Masks hide your facial identity, however you can be identified by clothing. You can also be identified by voice on a case by case basis with the RPC.
** Only some masks/hoods hide your identity, these include:
*** All Fire Nation soldier helmets
*** Swamp Monster Mask
*** Sand Tribe Scarves
**** If, and only if, the wearer of the scarf has it set to a mode where the face is visible, you may identify them.
**** If this is the case, we advise that you take a screenshot as evidence in the event that it ever comes up in a ticket.
*** Masks bought on Supano/Spawn
** Masks are assumed to be removed when knocked out.
* '''5.''' '''Seismic Sense:'''
** You can recognize people by their footsteps.
*** Only when you are in the focus state.
** You are capable of truthseeing if all parties involved agree to it.
** You are also able to open a ticket to attempt to truthsee an unwilling individual.
*** Both sides will be added to the ticket and prompted to share their reasons for why or why not the truthseeing should be allowed. The Roleplay Council will reach a decision once all relevant information has been presented.
* '''6.''' '''Artificial intelligence:''' The use of AI to work towards any and all unlocks is prohibited.
** This includes anything which results in an above average score on a standard AI detector, such as GPTZero.
** Using AI for translation or SPaG is permitted, but the original version must be provided to the RPC when using said journal for an unlock.
** Being caught will result in an automatic ban from RPC unlocks for the foreseeable future.
* '''7.''' Any votes that are meant to be taken in an IRP context must be held in-game.
** This is especially the case for HRO/NL positions that are being voted on.
