Chángqīng (commonly known as the Ling Estate) is the official residence of House Ling, the current royal family of the Earth Kingdom. Located in Bei da Feng, the estate consists of several mansions, gardens, and other structures built across a series of mountain terraces.

== Name ==
Chángqīng (长青) can be translated to “evergreen”, referring to something that remains green throughout the year and symbolizes the immortality of the patriarch of House Ling.

== History ==
Chángqīng was constructed in the years preceding the Hundred Years War, during the Hou-Ting dynasty, for House Hou-Ting to serve as their secondary residence. At the time, the estate consisted only of the main building and its two wings.

Following the fall of the dynasty, Chángqīng gradually fell into disrepair as the remaining fortune of House Hou-Ting was no longer sufficient to maintain it. With little value left in the neglected estate, it eventually came into the possession of Xiulan Hou-Ting, the youngest daughter of the family.

The estate was restored to its former state following Xiulan's marriage to Heimlock Ling. During their residence, Chángqīng was gradually expanded on a much larger scale, with additional mansions and gardens constructed further down the cliff.

Through the family’s connection to the Earth Sages, the estate has been the temporary home to several orphans throughout the years. In ??? AG, Chángqīng briefly housed the false Avatar Yù-Míng Liú.

== Location ==
Chángqīng sits on a cliff high above the town of Bei Da Feng in the Earth Kingdom. The estate is adjusted to the natural landscape of the mountain, with its mansions and gardens spread out on multiple terraces at different elevations.

== Layout ==
Chángqīng is considered one of the most exquisite estates in the Earth Kingdom. Because the estate was developed over several generations, its mansions and gardens arose one by one.

At the heart of Chángqīng, on the highest terrace, sits the courtyard of the original estate. It is the only symmetrical area of the estate, consisting of the main building and its two wings. These are the oldest structures on the grounds.

The guest house was constructed during the first years of Xiulan and Heimlock's residence, directly outside the original courtyard walls.

As the Ling family expanded the estate, additional mansions and gardens were constructed along the mountain below: the two mansions on the lowest terraces, accompanied by the largest garden in the estate grounds.

The estate contains numerous rooms, including private chambers, reception rooms, a dining hall, kitchen, bathrooms, and servant quarters. A grand ballroom is carved directly into the mountain beneath the original estate. The gardens contain ponds, planted areas, zen gardens, and a traditional gazebo.

The monks viewed Rakane as little more than an extension of his disgrace, and although they were disobedient and independent by nature, Rakane was often made a scapegoat for events in which they played little to no part.

Despite this treatment, a strong sense grew within Rakane that they were destined for something greater. Already during their teenage years, Rakane began to reject the identity the monks had imposed upon them. Eventually, they left the temples behind, determined to follow their own path.

Rakane discovered Rakanet during their world voyage and believed they were the first to set foot on its distant shores. The island appeared uninhabited, making it the perfect place to establish a haven for those who rejected society's rules and norms - a place where individuality and freedom reign supreme, unbound by laws or social structures. Rakanet would become the embodiment of Rakane's vision, a haven for criminals and outcasts, where true freedom could flourish.

To realize this vision, Rakane began construction on the island, intercepting passing ships and using their materials, along with the island's own resources, to build their sanctuary. However, reports of these hijackings soon reached the Emperor of the Sun Empire. Seeing an opportunity to expand his vast territory, the Emperor decided to annex Rakanet. Despite Rakane's fierce resistance, the Emperor's forces overwhelmed them. The settlement was demolished, the forests were ravaged and the island's minerals were mined. As a final insult, the Emperor mockingly "pardoned" Rakane and named the island after them. Outnumbered but not yet defeated, Rakane fled to the Great Forest of Yi, but vowed to return.

In time, when Rakanet's resources were depleted and the island was long abandoned by the Empire, Rakane returned. Presumed dead and likely forgotten by most, they rebuilt what had been destroyed and put their energy into the creation of a new settlement and harbor for the completion of the sanctuary. Now all that remained was to free the island from the lingering influence of the Sun Empire and create the lawless world they had always imagined, where those who defy societal norms could rule their own lives.
